The "Ballads of the Past" expansion was also announced.

CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a major update that will significantly increase the game's minimum system requirements. Most players with relatively modern hardware will be able to continue playing without issues, but Windows 11 will now be required to run the game.

New minimum system requirements:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB
  • 12 GB RAM
  • 70 GB on SSD
  • Windows 11 64-bit

In an official statement on the CD Projekt RED support website, the reasons for the changes were explained. As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows 10. Without regular security updates, official platform support, and graphics card drivers, the company will no longer test its games on this OS.

Additionally, the game will no longer support HDDs – only SSDs. This will allow for faster loading times, smoother asset streaming, and better overall performance. The Witcher 3 will also fully transition to DirectX 12, which will enable better support for modern hardware and future technical improvements. Only processors and graphics cards for which drivers continue to be released for Windows 11 will be supported.
