It took the company more than a year to do this. Shadows was released in March 2025.

Ubisoft spoke about how community feedback influenced the development of the final story update, Black Tides, for Assassin's Creed Shadows. At the same time, the developers admitted that some elements of the main story did not meet players' expectations.

According to the game's associate director, Simon Lemay-Comtois, the team carefully studied the audience's reaction to the story and decided to take the feedback into account when creating the final chapter of Naoe and Yasuke's story.

We understand that some story elements of the main game did not resonate with the community as much as we had hoped. Therefore, we tried to use this feedback constructively and incorporate it into the final chapter.

One of the main wishes of players was to increase the role of the Templars in the story. That is why in Black Tides, Naoe and Yasuke will face a new duo of opponents known as the Black Cross. According to Lemay-Comtois, comments like "add more Templar content" and "give more reasons to experiment with gear builds" directly influenced the direction of the update's development.

The developer emphasized that Black Tides will become an important part of the series' lore and will offer more story content related to the Templar Order. In addition, the update contains references to past and future installments of the franchise.
