Detroit: Become Human Developers Face Crisis and Layoffs. Union Accuses Management of Violations
Quantic Dream, the studio known for games like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, is embroiled in a scandal over a planned restructuring that will lead to the layoff of 115 employees.
The French trade union STJV has accused the company's management of violating labor laws and attempting to manipulate the layoff process.
The main dispute concerns the number of positions to be cut. According to the union, management initially stated 95 layoffs to reduce the mandatory consultation period to two months.
The actual number exceeds 100 employees, which by law requires a minimum of three months of discussions.
Employee representatives claim that management is restricting internal communication, including denying employees access to corporate newsletters.
The situation at the Paris office has led to protests: over a hundred employees held a warning strike outside the studio building.
Management, under the leadership of founder David Cage, is considering replacing some of the laid-off employees with external contractors or generative AI.
Quantic Dream continues to develop Star Wars Eclipse.
