HandyGames Becomes THQ Nordic Mobile - Company to Continue Porting Games to Smartphones
The rebranding officially solidified the company's long-standing role as THQ Nordic's mobile division.
The publishing division of the German company HandyGames has changed its name to THQ Nordic Mobile. This is more of an organizational formality than a new direction: the company has been porting PC and console projects to iOS and Android for many years.
After the rebranding, THQ Nordic Mobile will continue to publish mobile versions of games from the parent company's catalog and provide ongoing support for them. The new name is intended only to more clearly indicate the division's connection to THQ Nordic and its main specialization.
At the same time, the internal development team from Giebelstadt will retain the name HandyGames Studios. It will continue to create original games and assist with the technical aspects of mobile ports. The company's founders, Christopher and Markus Kassulke, will remain in charge of both directions.
Christopher Kassulke ironically commented on the abandonment of the previous legal name:
"After more than 26 years in the industry, I can finally stop explaining that our company's official name is indeed www.handy-games.com GmbH. Thanks to German bureaucracy. Now our publishing division is called THQ Nordic Mobile GmbH. This will make it clear to everyone that we are an important part of the parent company THQ Nordic from Vienna, and our main focus is mobile games."
THQ Nordic acquired HandyGames in 2018. Since then, the company has released Wreckfest, Maneater, Chicken Police, Way of the Hunter, Endling: Extinction is Forever, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, and other projects on smartphones. One of the division's upcoming projects will be the mobile version of Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. The platformer's pages recently appeared on the App Store and Google Play, but there has been no separate official announcement of the port yet.
