Aspyr Media has released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition and simultaneously confirmed that this is just the beginning of classic Lord of the Rings games returning to modern platforms.

In a press release, the company called War in the North "the first The Lord of the Rings game released by Aspyr" and promised to deliver "even more classic releases" from the franchise in the future. Specific projects have not yet been disclosed.

Fans have been asking for years for games like The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Return of the King, The Third Age, Battle for Middle-earth, and Conquest to be brought back to modern systems. In the future, new versions of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor or Middle-earth: Shadow of War for current platforms can also be expected.
