Screenwriter Accuses Saber of Replacing Her with AI for Text in Rideshare "Stimulator"
Now some activists are canceling the game for "AI slop."
Saber Interactive recently announced a new project called Rideshare "Stimulator". In this simulator from UNIGINE development studio, players will take on the role of a taxi driver and develop their business.
The project raised questions from activists who oppose the use of artificial intelligence. Former lead screenwriter Stella Sacco accused Saber of replacing her with AI (ChatGPT):
I didn't even notice that this game had already been officially announced. I was the lead writer on this project! And Saber replaced me with ChatGPT halfway through development. All passenger voices were also AI-synthesized. Either they changed direction at some point, or they just aren't disclosing this information on the game's Steam page.
She then added that the decision to replace her with ChatGPT was allegedly made by “a couple of AI-******* from Saber's senior management” and that she has no complaints about the game's development studio.
The project creators denied the accusations: “Neither Saber nor Unigine have replaced any writer with AI in Rideshare or any other game.” However, they noted that the game will feature an experimental mode that may use AI “to enhance and enrich the gameplay experience”:
The game will also feature an experimental free-roam mode that uses AI as needed, as the number of passengers in the game is infinite. [...] While the industry continues to shrink, Saber continues to hire. None of our more than 3,000 employees should worry about being replaced by AI.
