Players are asked not to boycott GTA VI - laid-off Rockstar employees appeal to the community

News

Recently, a group of Grand Theft Auto VI developers, who were controversially laid off last year, made their voices heard again. Rockstar Games was accused of "union busting." Media reported at the time that all affected employees were either already union members or planned to organize a union at the studio.

The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain launched a new T-shirt for sale, the proceeds of which will go to help 34 former Rockstar employees. In addition to announcing the start of sales, they also published an appeal from the laid-off specialists — they ask players not to boycott GTA VI:

We have invested years of our efforts, skill, and creative potential into creating GTA, and we want people to be able to immerse themselves in the world we helped build.

Former Rockstar employees clarified that no one intends to "let Rockstar off the hook." The fight will continue — the final court hearing is expected in September, where specialists will present their arguments in their closing statement.

In their opinion, if players truly want to support the developers, they should not ignore GTA VI, but rather support the laid-off employees in their fight for rights:

If you love GTA but hate union busting, then don't boycott the game; instead, support our legal battle.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not yet announced a release date or window for the PC version of the game.
