Morality System and RDR 2-Style Melee Combat: What's Been Revealed About GTA VI from New Leaks
It is assumed that the leaked footage is from an old build, so some mechanics may not be present in the final release version of the game.
New gameplay fragments of Grand Theft Auto VI have appeared online, which apparently demonstrate several previously unknown mechanics of Rockstar Games' long-awaited game. The company itself has not yet confirmed the authenticity of the leak, but video reuploads are being removed at the request of copyright holders, and the published footage looks convincing enough.
However, it is important to note that it is unknown how recent the demonstrated build is. By the time of release, some of the shown features may change or disappear entirely.
In one of the videos, Jason plays basketball, bringing back a mini-game that has been absent from the series since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Moreover, after a successful shot, a notification appears on the screen about an improvement in the Focus parameter. Such a parameter was not present in either GTA V or San Andreas, so mini-games may somehow affect character characteristics.
The leak also demonstrates impressive water physics. After a missed shot, the basketball bounces off the house, rolls down the boat ramp, and falls into the water. Even such a small detail can indicate a significantly deeper simulation of the surrounding world.
In another fragment, Jason gets into a conflict with a truck driver after a road accident. During the hand-to-hand combat, a stamina indicator appears, which was not present in the series' usual melee combat system.
At the same time, the fights themselves visually resemble the hand-to-hand clashes from Red Dead Redemption 2. If the mechanic is indeed preserved in the final version, Rockstar could make melee combat significantly deeper compared to GTA V.
After killing the driver, Jason receives two wanted stars. However, next to them, four more inactive icons are visible, which may indicate the return of a six-star wanted level.
This system was present in previous games in the series but was absent in GTA V. If the observation is correct, at the maximum pursuit level, Rockstar may again deploy much more serious forces, potentially including the military.
Even more interesting is the alleged new police awareness system. Below the wanted stars, additional icons are visible, which may show what information about the criminal law enforcement officers have.
Judging by the video, the police may know Jason's clothing, his car, and his approximate location. This potentially means that the player will have to change cars and appearance to throw off pursuers.
One of the most unusual details appears after killing the driver. A small devil icon with a negative symbol appears on the screen. Perhaps it is related to a morality system, reputation, or the consequences of crimes.
If such a mechanic truly exists, it will be a significant change for the series, where players traditionally could cause mass chaos without serious long-term consequences for the character.
The video also shows new contextual actions near the car – Storage, Loadout, and Close. This could mean the appearance of a more flexible item and equipment storage system, as well as more dynamic control prompts instead of a large number of actions via the D-pad.
Finally, after Jason returns to the car, its make and model are displayed on the screen, and below that, icons resembling fuel and engine condition indicators.
If the interpretation is correct, for the first time in the series' history, players may have to monitor fuel levels, and the car may break down without necessarily exploding. However, it is not yet clear whether these elements are full-fledged game mechanics or features of a specific test build.
