GTA VI leaks are "a trifle" - Rockstar veteran recalls the Hot Coffee adult mini-game scandal from GTA: San Andreas

News

Back then, the developers of GTA: San Andreas faced big problems.

In August, a hacker began publishing Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage online. Obbe Vermeij, former technical director of Rockstar North, drew attention to this.

He decided to share his opinion on social media about the hacker Cyberleek's publications. He urged everyone to calm down and stated that "these leaks are a trifle."

Obbe explained that Rockstar Games marketers simply try to "keep the game a secret longer than other publishers" and nothing terrible actually happened:

All that happened is that some footage from the game got online. A little earlier, before the start of the Netflix presentation, scheduled for next week. 90% of future players don't spend time on the Internet looking for videos. They don't have time for it, and they don't want to catch spoilers.

According to Obbe, the developers at Rockstar Games are now "a little annoyed, but no more." He recalled his work experience – when the Hot Coffee mini-game scandal happened:

For management (Rockstar New York) it was a nightmare, but it hardly affected us (Rockstar North). The current leaks are much less significant than the Hot Coffee one. It seems GTA VI will be phenomenal and will sell for another 15 years or so. Leaks are just a small trifle.

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19 this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not yet announced the release date or release window for the PC version of the game.
