Fans of "28 Years Later" won't have to wait long for a sequel. "28 Years Later. Part II: Bone Chapel" will be a direct sequel and is set to hit theaters on January 16, 2026.
Sony Pictures has released the first official trailer for "28 Years Later. Part II: Bone Chapel," a continuation of the zombie franchise created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland over two decades ago. The new film will be the second installment in the new "28 Years Later" trilogy and will continue the story of the recent film of the same name, which received mostly positive reviews.
In the sequel, Ralph Fiennes (as Dr. Kelson) and Alfie Williams as Spike will return to their roles. His character will face Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell), who appears to be a far more serious threat than the infected.
Nia DaCosta ("Candyman") directed "28 Years Later. Part II: Bone Chapel," with Alex Garland returning to write the script. Cillian Murphy, who played Jim in the original "28 Days Later," will also appear in the new film—his role will be episodic, but the actor will play the lead role in the final part of the trilogy.

The film is scheduled for release on January 16, 2026.
