The star-studded cast of \"Highlander\" with Henry Cavill is joined by an immortal warrior from Africa.
Djimon Hounsou has officially joined the cast of the \"Highlander\" remake, which is being prepared by Amazon MGM.
The new version of the cult 1986 film is being created under the direction of Chad Stahelski, the director of the \"John Wick\" franchise. The main role is played by Henry Cavill: he will play Connor MacLeod, a Scottish warrior drawn into a centuries-old confrontation of immortals.
Filming will begin in late September. In addition to Cavill and Hounsou, the film will feature Dave Bautista (Kurgan, the main antagonist), Karen Gillan (MacLeod's mortal wife in the past), Marisa Abela (his lover in the present), and Russell Crowe, who will play the role of mentor Ramirez. Hounsou himself will embody a new character on screen — an immortal warrior from Africa, created specifically for the remake.
Djimon Hounsou is an actor with an impressive filmography. He first made a name for himself in Steven Spielberg's \"Amistad,\" was twice nominated for an Oscar for his roles in \"In America\" and \"Blood Diamond,\" and has also repeatedly appeared in Marvel and DC projects and starred in Zack Snyder's \"Rebel Moon.\"
The remake promises to preserve the key elements of the original — mythology, philosophy, and the concept of \"there can be only one\" — but will offer a fresh and larger-scale look at the familiar story. The script was written by Michael Finch (\"John Wick 4\"), and Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt from United Artists, as well as Stahelski's 87Eleven Entertainment team, are producing.
Earlier, Chad Stahelski mentioned that the premiere could take place in 2027–2028, but the final release date has not yet been approved.
