Recently, the authors of No Man’s Sky introduced a major update, Voyagers. The developers are monitoring player reactions to the content and new mechanics.
Martin Griffiths, a software engineer from the No Man's Sky team, drew attention to a skydiving screenshot and commented on the technical side of the mechanics:
«A beautiful shot that makes us very happy — skydiving pushed our engine to the limit; it got to the point where in some biomes (even a few weeks before release) there was a sharp drop in FPS when combining slow descent and a large visible part of the planet.
It took a collaborative effort from technical artists and programmers to make this new feature as smooth as it is now. It's nice to see the fruits of this labor!».
