Michael Ironside, who voiced Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell series, will not return to his role in the animated series. According to the showrunner, the creators had their reasons.
On October 14, Netflix will premiere the animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, based on Ubisoft's iconic series of spy action games. In the show, Sam Fisher will be voiced by Liev Schreiber, not Michael Ironside, who voiced the character for many years.
Project showrunner Derek Kolstad, known for his work on "John Wick," explained the reasons for the replacement. According to him, the team strived for a "new sound," hoping to develop the series in the long term. He called Ironside a legend, but emphasized: "If we're going to be doing this for a long time, we're going to need a new sound."
The choice of Liev Schreiber was also influenced by his past – in particular, his role as John Clark in the film "The Sum of All Fears," based on the works of Tom Clancy. "Say what you will about that movie, but Liev Schreiber as John Clark was perfect. And this is a character from the same universe, created by the same author," Kolstad noted, adding that this continuity only strengthened his confidence in Schreiber's candidacy.
