Ampere Analysis has presented a report on the impact of screen adaptations on the gaming industry. Analysts note that series and films based on games directly increase their popularity and sales.
According to the study, television adaptations increase the number of active players by an average of 203% after the release of the series. Films give a smaller effect, but still noticeable — plus 48%.
The most indicative were Fallout and The Last of Us. The Amazon series on Fallout, which gathered over 100 million viewers, caused an increase in the number of players throughout the series by 491%. Moreover, 80% came to the project for the first time. Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 became especially popular.
The television adaptation of The Last of Us raised audience activity by approximately 156%. A similar result was shown by the animated series Devil May Cry from Netflix — interest in the series grew by 359%, despite the fact that the franchise had long been in the background.
Even Minecraft, which has a huge fan base, received a boost after the film's premiere: the audience increased by 30%. On the scale of the game, this means hundreds of thousands or even millions of new players.
Experts emphasize that screen adaptations have become a powerful marketing tool, reviving old projects and attracting new players. In the future, their number will only increase.
