Id Software engineer Billy Khan stated that many games will use ray tracing in the coming years. Doom: The Dark Ages looks beautiful thanks to a combination of ray tracing and Nvidia technologies.
Technologies in games are constantly evolving, and developers are trying to outpace each other with new solutions. One such innovation is ray tracing, a method that is rapidly gaining popularity. Cyberpunk 2077 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle already use it with excellent results, and Doom: The Dark Ages also uses this technology.
Billy Khan, Director of Engine Technology at id Software, noted: "I believe ray tracing will evolve and appear in more games in the coming years."
Khan explained that ray tracing has become a key part of their own id Tech 8 engine. Id Software continues to explore and develop the technology, planning its implementation in new projects. He described how the technology improves the graphics of Doom: The Dark Ages, noting Nvidia Shader Execution Reordering's contribution to ray tracing optimization.
Path tracing works great with DLSS Ray Tracing, allowing for reduced noise and surpassing traditional noise reduction methods. This technology has become a "cheat code" for visuals, and with support for new AMD video cards, many studios will feel the need to use it in their games.
