Not everyone sees a threat to the younger generation in popular online games.
Pavel Golubev, Director of the Association for the Development of Esports Infrastructure (ARKI), recently spoke with Gazeta.Ru.
He said that esports can be beneficial for children's development with the right approach. As examples of games, he cited popular online projects by Valve - Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2.
Pavel noted that players learn to work with information quickly, control their emotions, and can develop other useful skills in the process:
"Team disciplines like Dota or Counter-Strike teach communication, teamwork, role distribution, and responsibility for the overall result. Many games develop strategic thinking skills, the ability to analyze a situation and make quick decisions under pressure. In addition, the child learns to work with information in a limited time, plan resources and control emotions."
Such skills are in demand outside of video games, so Pavel believes that "...games in general and esports in particular can be useful development tools, but only if they are properly integrated into the system: through circles, sections, clubs, where there is a coach who can direct the process in the right direction."
