Balance in Dune: Awakening is often controversial. Initially, air vehicles were too strong, allowing them to shoot down other players. Later, players complained that ground vehicles were almost useless, as they spend most of their time using ornithopters.

As for skills, a meta quickly formed: some skills were ignored due to the presence of more effective alternatives. The developers tried to balance the game with monthly patches, but players are not always satisfied.

Developer Iggy explained in Discord that they are balancing the game not for "ranged combat only" or "melee combat only," but want players to alternate between both modes. He emphasized that changing weapons is part of Dune: Awakening, and work on balance will continue; the current patch is not the last.

Players on Reddit were outraged: in their opinion, the developers are once again trying to change the usual style. In the game, you need to choose a class, have only 3 active and 3 passive skills, change them every 48 hours, and new armor sets give bonuses only to one specialization. Everything is designed for specialization, and the idea of hybrid combat contradicts the system.

User EvilRobotSteve adds: the developers' goal and the actual mechanics of the game diverge. Players will use what is effective. For a hybrid style to become popular, not only nerfs and buffs are needed, but also a mechanic for automatically changing talents when changing weapons, as in other games.
