Halo Infinite was recently remembered again. During the "Halo World Championship 2025" event, fans received an answer to a long-standing question about the game's lore.
The Halo Infinite campaign introduced the AI "Weapon", but never revealed what name the AI ultimately chose — this moment was revealed in the book "Halo: Edge of Dawn", the events of which chronologically occur after Infinite.
A long-standing fan theory has been confirmed: the name Joyeuse was chosen.
Fans previously recalled a quote from "Encyclopedia of Mythological Objects" (about the sword of Roland, a character from French medieval legends):
Upon the blade of the sword she created were engraved the words "My name is Cortana, of the same steel and temper as Joyeuse and Durandal ||||| На клинке созданного ею меча были выгравированы слова: "Меня зовут Кортана, я той же стали и закалки, как Жуайёз и Дюрандаль"
- Durandal is the name of an AI from Marathon, a Bungie game that predates Halo;
- Cortana is also a name used for AI in the Halo franchise
- Only the Joyeuse option remained — it was used for the "Weapon". Since it is difficult to pronounce, it is believed that it will later be pronounced simply as Joy — the franchise account has already done so when mentioning the name.
