Not everyone accepts the vision of the developers.
The authors of the Russian tactics Red Recon 1944 recently decided to talk about the weapon models that will appear in the game.
The focus was on the "DP-27 'Disc Machine Gun'" and the "Degtyarev Light Machine Gun (RPD)." According to the developers, in the game they are "recreated taking into account historical performance characteristics and practical application":
....fire from a DP or RPD effectively suppresses the enemy and keeps him in cover, while the remaining scouts flank or come from the rear. In combat with superior forces, such weapons are truly valuable — a character armed with a machine gun in the right place is able to turn the tide of the entire battle
One of the participants in the discussion noted in the comments: But the RPD, then still RD-44, was only undergoing military trials?
Another user added:
yes, there is such a problem, they began to [add] it to all games about WWII [along with the Fedorov assault rifle]. there was a sporting interest and a serious article was found where it was written in black and white: "did not participate" and scans of documents. now the first search query in Google shows that it did not participate and began to be mass-produced only in the 50s
