The industry is about to see the merger of two major technology companies. Unity and Epic Games have announced a partnership that they say will be a step towards a new stage in the development of the gaming market.
Epic Games and Unity have unveiled a collaboration that both companies believe could influence the future of the industry.
At the annual Unity conference, it was announced that projects created on the engine will be able to be released within Fortnite. Epic Games' game has long become not only a shooter, but also a full-fledged ecosystem with more than 500 million registered accounts. Developers will be able to participate in the Fortnite Creator Economy and publish projects within the platform.
The partnership also includes another step: Unity will integrate Unreal Engine support into its multi-platform commercial system. Game creators on the Epic Games engine will receive additional tools for managing catalogs, payment methods, and online stores on PC, mobile, and web. They will be able to customize prices, discounts, and service operations through Unreal Engine. Support will appear in early 2026 - at the same time, more details and a schedule for the release of the first projects will be announced.
The collaboration between Unity and Epic Games, according to the companies, could change the approach to developing future games. Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney compared what is happening to the early stages of the Internet's development. He stated that the industry needs a joint move forward to build open metaverses, ensure fair conditions, and give authors more opportunities to promote projects.
