The adaptation of the Scandinavian saga God of War is gradually gaining details.
Deadline reports that Prime Video has enlisted Emmy winner Frederick E.O. Toye to direct the first two episodes of the God of War series. He previously worked on individual episodes of Shōgun, Fallout, and The Boys.
The project continues to be led by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica and Outlander.
The series adapts the Scandinavian chapter of Kratos' story, which began with God of War (2018). Production is underway in Canada: pre-production is currently taking place in Vancouver, and the studio has already begun casting for the roles of Kratos and Atreus. It has also been confirmed that Amazon has ordered two seasons at once.
Prime Video's decision is explained by the scale of production. Such projects require significant investments in the world, sets, costumes, and props, and with long-term planning, such costs are distributed more efficiently. It is possible that some of the work on the two seasons will be carried out in parallel — as James Cameron does, who managed to shoot a block of material for Avatar 4, although its production has not officially started yet.
