The creators of Assassin's Creed Shadows talked about two key aspects of development.
In an interview with GamesRadar, co-leader Simon Lemay-Comtois noted that the studio finds it difficult to find competitors in terms of visual quality. According to him, nine months have passed since the release of the game, and the team continues to note the high quality of Shadows graphics, especially on PS5 Pro. He attributes this to many years of technological development and the experience of Ubisoft Quebec.
The second aspect concerns the two playable characters — Naoe and Yasuke. Lemay-Comtois said that the opposition of radically different play styles was laid down from the very beginning and the studio considers this a successful solution. The developers are ready in the future to implement the possibility of two main characters, if there is a plot necessity for this. According to Lemay-Comtois, this decision expands the plot and gives players more freedom and variety.
He also noted that the two-character system sometimes causes disagreements among players, which is noticeable in Assassin's Creed Syndicate. In Shadows, the contrast between Naoe and Yasuke is more pronounced, which intensifies the polarization of fan opinions. The studio considers this a justified price for a new experience.
The developer added that the work on the characters allowed to refine the movement, combat and stealth systems, which will become the basis for future games in the series. Special attention is paid to the uniqueness of Naoe and her acrobatic techniques, inspired by ninjas, which will be used in future Ubisoft projects.
