The eternal confrontation between fighting games Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat flared up with renewed vigor after a taunt by comedian Andrew Schulz, which sounded from the stage of The Game Awards.
One of the most discussed moments of The Game Awards 2025 ceremony was the unexpected performance of the actors of the future Street Fighter movie. The entire cast of the film, led by Jason Momoa (Blanka), Cody Rhodes (Guile), and Roman Reigns (Akuma), came on stage to present the first trailer for the adaptation of the cult fighting game. However, the show quickly turned into a light trolling of their main "rivals" — the team of the movie "Mortal Kombat 2".
Comedian Andrew Schulz, who plays Dan Hibiki, said from the stage: "We are not the only ones who are grateful to you for your support. There is another team that also flew in from all over the world to meet with you. Meet the actors of Mortal Kombat 2!"
The audience applauded in anticipation of the actors' appearance, but Schulz paused and added: "Just kidding. They didn't come. They don't care. They only love money. And we love both money and you. Street Fighter forever!"
This moment quickly spread across social networks. Streamer unCAGEDgamez noted: "They just started a war." Mortal Kombat fans immediately joined the debate: some defended the actors of the sequel, others argued about which movie would be better, and still others ironically acknowledged the successful trolling.
Mortal Kombat 2 producer Todd Garner did not stand aside and responded in X: "I don't step on others to get ahead." Later, Garner softened his tone, writing that he hopes for the success of both films, but did not delete the original message.
The confrontation between two legendary fighting games — Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter — has been going on for three decades. Their rivalry, which began on arcades and consoles, has now moved to the big screens. Mortal Kombat 2 will be released on May 8, and Street Fighter on October 16, 2026.
