Modern technologies are also used in Larian Studios.
Recently, Larian Studios announced Divinity. After the trailer was released, fans began to build theories about what type of gameplay the studio would offer this time.
The "action RPG" version was not confirmed — the new Divinity will be a turn-based role-playing game, and the developers are using a new engine.
Larian boss Sven Vincke said that the developers are using generative AI, but this has not yet led to a significant increase in efficiency.
The studio uses AI tools to explore ideas, create concepts, placeholder text, etc. There will be nothing created by AI in the game itself.
Divinity is planned to be released in an "early access" format.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was a great game, and I’m proud of this project, but I think this game will be much better. [In the case of Divinity] we are creating a system designed for a video game [and not adapting the rules of the D&D tabletop game]. This system is much easier to understand.
In the new game, Larian plans to pay even more attention to cinematic storytelling. The developers also want to expand the scale and variety of storylines:
The idea is that when you talk to other journalists about this game, you will all have completely different stories. We are doing a few things that I don’t think you’ve seen in role-playing games before.
