Japanese Stores Begin Limiting Video Card Sales — Will Prices Rise Again?

The increase in prices for RAM and NAND flash is not slowing down and may soon affect other components, including video cards.

Several months ago, there were warnings about a possible jump in GPU prices. In recent days, rumors have intensified that NVIDIA and AMD are preparing a significant price increase — up to extremely high levels. As an example, the RTX 5090 is mentioned with a price tag of around $5000.

For now, there is hope that these are just rumors. Even without an official increase in recommended prices, the market may face a slowdown in the production of video cards due to a shortage of video memory. In this case, a repeat of the situation of previous years is possible, when GPU prices rose sharply against the backdrop of "crypto mining."

According to Tom’s Hardware, one of the largest electronics stores, Tsukumo in Tokyo, has begun to limit the sale of video cards with 16 GB of VRAM and above. The measure also affected more affordable models, including the RTX 5060 Ti: one buyer is allowed to purchase only one card from this category.

Previously, Tom’s Hardware also reported that three Japanese retailers — Tsukumo, Sycom, and Mouse Computers — are warning about the impossibility of naming the timing of orders in 2026. Some companies have already stopped accepting orders for new gaming PCs due to a shortage of RAM.
