The parkour simulator Mirror's Edge stands out with its visual style against the background of other projects. However, the game was not always about a world of snow-white skyscrapers with blue skies.
It turns out that at a certain stage, the project had a typical Unreal Engine piss-filter (a characteristic yellow-brown tint that gamers often encountered in projects from the time of the xbox 360). However, during testing, a good reason arose to rework the world.
In a conversation with Design Room, Senior Producer Owen O'Brien said that during testing, the developers noticed that Mirror's Edge began to cause nausea during rapid movement.
To alleviate the problem, the game world was decided to be changed:
In truth, Mirror's Edge initially looked like a typical game on the Unreal Engine. We found that when moving very quickly around the world, simulator sickness [nausea] quickly arose. We found that this problem is weakened if you make the world cleaner and less detailed
