The wait for a new Half-Life installment continues.
Blogger-dataminer Gabe Follower has returned with new material dedicated to the HLX project (Half-Life 3). In the video, he compiled various findings from the past 6 months.
In his opinion, "the biggest mystery" is the delay in the release of the reissue of the book Raising the Bar. He recalled that in November 2024, for the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2, they promised to release a new edition of the book about the game's development. At that time, they also promised to talk about some ideas and experiments in the form of the third episode that never saw the light of day.
Valve set a clear deadline: the book was supposed to be sent to print and published in 2025. It is already 2026, and Gabe Follower believes that Half-Life 3 should have been announced earlier, while the book was not released because of potential spoilers.
Rumors that the postponement of the HL3 announcement is connected with delays in the release of new hardware (Steam Machine), according to Gabe Follower, "have little to do with reality."
According to Gabe Follower, the new iteration of Half-Life 3 is "more alive than all the living," and in the video he examines findings in Source 2 engine updates. For example, there are traces of dynamic physics, work on NPC navigation under conditions of alternative gravity, realistic weapon ballistics, and more.
