It was previously announced that the console version of ICARUS is delayed.
RocketWerkz and GRIP studios previously announced the postponement of the console release of the survival game ICARUS. The game was originally scheduled for release on February 26, but now ICARUS: Console Edition will be available on March 26, a month later than planned.
Simultaneously with the announcement of the postponement, the developers confirmed a question and answer session on Reddit in the r/Survival Gaming section. Before it started, ICARUS creator and DayZ author Dean Hall addressed the players, calling for "normalizing game delays".
According to him, game development requires significant financial investments, and release dates directly affect the project budget. Any delay can significantly increase costs.
At the same time, the developer noted, players want both high quality and an exact release date. Because of this, studios often fall into a "fixation on launch", trying to release the product on time at any cost. This is partly due to pressure from revenue, but largely due to audience perception.
We are here to change that perception. Refusing to postpone leads to a "crunch culture." I'm here on a mission - let's normalize game delays. You, as consumers, have the opportunity to convey to platform holders [Xbox, PlayStation] that delays are normal.
Answering a question about the reasons for delays in the industry, Hall added that most often delays occur due to non-compliance with the level of quality. Even if developers strive to bring the game to the desired standard, they do not always have enough funds. As a result, some studios prefer to hide problems or ignore them. According to Hall, this is exactly what happened during the initial launch of ICARUS, which led to "mixed" reviews. Only after strengthening financial stability, the studio was able to start breaking this vicious circle - although, as the developer admits, it is still not easy to do.
