Asha Sharma became the head of Xbox after Phil Spencer's departure. Every action she takes online is now closely scrutinized by players, leading to a wave of accusations.
The community doubted that the "AI specialist" with a new Xbox Live account and dozens of achievements is a gamer, and that her posts are written by AI or a copywriter.
Sharma responded directly on X, addressing IGN journalist Ryan McCaffrey:
Agreed – pretending would be a terrible idea and just wouldn't work. I also didn't expect my nickname to grow so much, and the reality is much more boring. I created it recently to explore and understand this world. I played with my family, and it was a shared account for all devices (as evidenced by the variety of games and achievements). I fixed it on the weekend – now everyone plays on their own account.
She emphasized that she doesn't claim to be a hardcore gamer:
I understand where these comments come from. I don't claim to be the best gamer, and even if I were, that's not my goal. My goal is to make Xbox the best place to play, to return to our roots, to release great content, and to strengthen our position in the future.
And added about social media posts:
Yes, I write my posts myself :).
The situation demonstrates the community's high level of distrust towards corporations and raises questions about the future of Xbox: how much Sharma will use AI and how she will implement the promised "return to roots."
