Component pricing and availability issues will not affect the release dates of PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox, says Take-Two CEO

Earlier this year, MST International analyst David Gibson reported that the release of PlayStation 6 may be later than expected.

Rumors of a possible delay in the next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft continue to cause concern among players, but industry representatives are in no hurry to sound the alarm.

Earlier this year, MST International analyst David Gibson reported that the release of PlayStation 6 may be later than expected — one of the reasons he cited was the ongoing crisis in the memory and storage market. In February, Bloomberg confirmed this information, noting that Sony is considering postponing the launch of the console to 2028 or even 2029.

Against this background, there are no similar leaks about the next Microsoft console (code-named Project Helix). However, after the official confirmation at the Game Developers Conference that Alpha devkits will begin to be distributed in 2027, some fans suggested that the launch of the device may shift to 2028.

Despite growing concerns, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick remains confident. In an interview with The Game Business, he stated that component pricing and availability issues will not affect the release dates of new consoles.

We don't see this affecting the supply of consoles to the market.

His position looks especially significant given that Take-Two may soon become the largest public game publisher in the United States — subject to approval of the $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts by the consortium. According to experts, Zelnick likely has general information about Sony's and Microsoft's plans regarding the release dates of their new consoles.
