The first results of the large-scale collaboration between Epic Games and Disney are already on the way. According to Bloomberg, the game is scheduled for release in 2026, but there are doubts within the studio about its prospects.
Epic Games is working on a new extraction shooter with Disney characters. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the project. According to them, the game may be released as early as November 2026.
In terms of its structure, the game will resemble Arc Raiders — a cooperative PvPvE shooter with elements of survival and evacuation. At the same time, there is no complete consensus within Epic Games regarding the quality of the project. Some of the team are optimistic, while others point to the secondary nature and lack of original mechanics, which may complicate the fight for attention in a crowded market.
It is not yet known which Disney characters will appear in the game. As part of the agreement, Epic Games gained access to the company's extensive library of intellectual property, including characters from Marvel, Star Wars, and dozens of other franchises.
The project does not yet have an official name and is being considered as part of a large-scale partnership between Disney and Epic, which became known in 2024. At that time, the media giant invested about $1.5 billion in the developer of Fortnite, hoping to create a unified gaming and entertainment ecosystem.
According to Bloomberg, at least three projects are planned as part of the collaboration, but the development of other games is said to be facing difficulties. Resources are being redistributed between teams, as Disney is allegedly unhappy with the progress of the remaining two projects.
Epic Games disagrees with this assessment. Liz Markman, Senior Director of Global Communications, told Bloomberg that the material "does not reflect the ambition of the collaboration", emphasizing that the company is building "a new gaming and entertainment universe based on Disney". According to her, employees are distributed between projects taking into account the expected release dates: part of the team is focused on the nearest games, while small groups are working on prototypes.
Disney also provided a comment to the publication, stating that the company is still "focused on long-term cooperation with Epic, which demonstrates strong dynamics." Thus, the studio makes it clear that there is no dissatisfaction with the joint work.
