No Jokes About Women: IO Interactive Reimagines James Bond for a "Modern Audience" in 007 First Light
The agent used to be sexist and misogynistic, but such behavior is unacceptable now.
IO Interactive continues to reveal details about 007 First Light — a new James Bond game that will tell the story of a young Agent 007. And, judging by recent comments from the developers, the studio intends to reimagine Bond's image for a modern audience, abandoning some character traits from the classic films.
For decades, James Bond remained a symbol of "old school" spy thrillers: charismatic, self-assured, and often overtly sexist. In the film "GoldenEye," the character M even called Bond "a sexist, misogynist dinosaur."
However, the project's narrative director, Martin Emborg, stated in a new interview that the new game will take into account modern realities and the changed perception of the character.
Every interpretation of Bond has always reflected the era in which it was created. We look at this hero through the lens of 2026 and ask ourselves: what does it mean to save the world today? Some things are left in the past, while others become more important than ever.
At the same time, the developers are not going to completely abandon the familiar "Bondiana." The trailer has already shown classic elements of the series: glamorous women, flirting, and signature ambiguous dialogues. According to Emborg, "there will be beautiful women in the game," and Bond himself will remain young, charismatic, and self-assured.
