CDPR Stock Price Drops After The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Expansion Announcement

The Witcher 3 will get more new content, but you'll have to wait.

In May, CD Projekt RED finally confirmed the development of a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past.

The developers announced that the release is expected next year, and the DLC is being developed in collaboration with the Fool's Theory team:

Get ready to return to the open road with Geralt in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past expansion. It will be released in 2027. We are working on the expansion in collaboration with Fool's Theory studio.

CD Projekt RED plans to share details "in late summer," but for now, the market has reacted to the announcement with little enthusiasm. Shortly after the DLC reveal, the stock price dropped by approximately 10%: from ~262 Polish zlotys to ~234.8 (i.e., the company's total capitalization decreased from $6 billion to approximately $5.8 billion). The price then rebounded by a few zlotys but has not yet returned to its previous value.

It is assumed that this market/investor reaction is related to the expansion's release window (it is expected in 2027). There were active rumors online that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would receive DLC this year.

Currently, an unofficial expansion about Ciri is also being prepared for the game – a modder recently announced an extended version of their project.
