Half-Life Sets Historic Price Record Among PC Games - Auction Concludes
Someone kept a sealed copy of Valve's classic for a very long time.
A copy of Half-Life was recently sold at a Goldin auction. The lot reached a price of $13,725, with a total of 70 bids from participants. The bidding started last month at $100.
As a result, Half-Life set a record: no other PC game had ever been sold at auction for such a sum. This is a sealed copy, which received an "85+" rating from the Video Game Authority.
The lot description on the Goldin website states:
VGA registry reports confirm only one copy of this edition with a higher grade. Released in 1998 by Sierra On-Line, this sealed copy of Half-Life is a first-person shooter for PC (for Windows 95/98/NT) and the first game in the series.
The previous record in the PC segment was held by Akalabeth: World of Doom (1979), which sold for $11,211 several years ago.
However, Half-Life's result pales in comparison to classics for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Earlier this month, it was reported that a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. was sold for $3 million (over 230 million rubles) at a Heritage Auctions event.
