GOG mocked Sony for abandoning discs and reminded of the advantage of PC gaming - no store permission required to play purchased games
Some PlayStation console owners are considering switching to PC.
Earlier this month, Sony warned players that it was discontinuing the production of game discs for PlayStation. This decision caused a wave of criticism online, and some continue to speak out.
Recently, Sony was criticized by GOG. A post appeared on the store's social media account, clearly referring to the decision to abandon PlayStation discs:
Download an offline installer for any game from your GOG library, burn it to a disc – and it's yours forever. You don't need store permission to play what you've bought.
GOG distributes DRM-free games, meaning they release projects without protection. This approach is approved by some players who fear that at some point they may be deprived of access to purchased digital versions. In the case of GOG, buyers can easily download content to their device and it will remain with them.
Some players believe that it is high time for publishers to switch to DRM-free releases on PC, since with the advent of "hypervisor", the Denuvo problem was solved – protection in some games is sometimes bypassed even before the official release.
