Monument Valley creators accused Apple and Google of inaction in promoting mobile games
Earlier, Ustwo Games announced its transition to a "PC-first" strategy.
Ustwo Games head Maria Sayans accused Apple and Google of failing to help developers find an audience. At the Develop:Brighton conference, she stated that the studio is forced to invest more and more time and money into promoting its projects independently.
"The problem is how to reach an audience in a crowded market with platforms that, frankly… I would say are not doing their job."
According to Sayans, the commission of mobile stores should cover not only app distribution and payment processing, but also help developers find an audience, but this system is currently not working.
"You know, you pay the platform 30% for a lot of services, and one of them is helping you acquire an audience. But it's not really working right now."
These words came six months after Ustwo Games announced a change in strategy and a transition to a PC-first model. While all three parts of Monument Valley were previously developed for mobile devices first and then released on PC, the studio now intends to create games for computers first and only then consider releasing them on smartphones. At the same time, since the release of Monument Valley 3 in 2024, Ustwo Games has not announced any new projects, limiting itself to porting the game to PC and consoles.
