Work on the continuation had been underway since the beginning of the year, but HBO still had one small formality to complete.

HBO has officially renewed the series "It: Welcome to Derry" for a second season and released the first teaser. The decision was more of a formality: media outlets reported on the start of work on the continuation back in January, then Andrés and Barbara Muschietti repeatedly spoke about plans for the next chapter, and by early August, the writers' room had already begun work.

Minor changes only occurred in the project's leadership. Brad Caleb Kane remained the sole showrunner for the second season, while Jason Fuchs will not return to his position. Andrés and Barbara Muschietti will continue to oversee the series as executive producers.

The main plot details were revealed by the creators earlier. The action will move to 1935, 27 years before the events of the first season, and will revolve around the Bradley gang massacre. Its members are hiding in Derry from the authorities and encounter another manifestation of ancient evil.

In addition to Pennywise, the creators intend to show the real horrors of the Great Depression: Derry will appear as a city ravaged by poverty and crime, and homeless people, orphans, and the unemployed will appear among the characters.

The premiere date for the second season has not yet been announced.
