The Xbox that goes "vroom": Microsoft to integrate cloud gaming into cars

Microsoft and LG are expanding their collaboration. In some cars, passengers will be able to launch games from Game Pass directly on the built-in screen.

Xbox Cloud Gaming will soon be available in a number of cars with the LG webOS operating system. This was announced at the International Motor Show in Germany, where LG and Microsoft demonstrated the integration of the Xbox app into the car's multimedia system - in particular, into the screen for passengers in the back.

The Xbox app will be built into the LG Automotive Content Platform (ACP), and owners of cars with ACP will be able to launch games from the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library, as well as some games from their personal library.

To use Xbox Cloud Gaming in the car, you will need a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, an internet connection via car-SIM, and a compatible Bluetooth controller.

At launch, the feature will be available in select Kia models - including the EV3, EV4, EV5, and the updated Sportage. They all use the LG webOS ACP platform. For now, we are talking about the European market, but in the future the geography of the project will likely expand.

This is not the first integration of the Xbox app into LG devices: Microsoft has previously released a similar app for the brand's smart TVs. Now Xbox is taking a step towards automotive entertainment. According to Christopher Lee, Vice President of Xbox Marketing, the company strives to "bring the joy of gaming to where players are" - and cars have become a logical continuation of this strategy.

The exact launch date for the automotive version of the Xbox app has not yet been announced, but Microsoft has assured that it is a matter of "the near future."
