Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater received a major update on PS5 Pro, fixing significant technical issues from the release. According to Digital Foundry's analysis, patch 1.21 stabilized the FPS and added new graphics modes, noticeably improving the gameplay experience for PS5 Pro owners.
Two modes have appeared: Quality and Performance. Quality maintains high graphics settings, while Performance reduces certain parameters for smoother gameplay. Tests showed an increase of up to 15 FPS in demanding scenes, such as the swamp location in the Virtuous Mission. The update improves stability, eliminating the need for a VRR display.
Digital Foundry notes that some FPS drops remain — during battles or when AI is activated, frames can drop to 40. John Linneman called this a "CPU bottleneck," suggesting the implementation of a 120 Hz output and a 30 FPS lock for stability.
The graphics use PSSR upscaling, maintaining high quality in motion, but in static scenes, the visuals are slightly softer than the TAAU method on the base PS5. Ambient occlusion is reduced, and global illumination is less bright in Performance mode.
On PC, the patch adds an ultrawide 21:9 mode (although cutscenes and menus remain 16:9). The PS5 version received minor improvements — +3 FPS and a fix for brightness flickering.
