The developer denied the players' joke that he is doing nothing.
Yoko Taro has refuted a popular fan joke that he has been "doing nothing" in recent years. At a panel discussion at the G-CON 2025 game conference in Korea, Taro admitted that since the release of NieR: Automata in 2017, he has been actively working on several projects, but none of them have seen the light of day due to cancellation at intermediate stages of development.
I'm often told, "Why aren't you making a NieR sequel?" or "Yoko Taro isn't doing anything." But that's because a lot of the projects I've been involved in have been shut down halfway through.
Taro emphasized that he was paid for the work, so he's not offended.
The developer did not go into the reasons for the cancellations, most likely fearing a breach of the non-disclosure agreement.
I don't see anything wrong with that. If I'm going to release something strange, it's better not to release anything at all.
