Matthew Patrick has been analyzing the franchise world since the first game's release in 2014 and sees nothing wrong with changing the lore for the sake of the format.
Matthew Patrick, better known as MatPat, revealed that the sequel to "Five Nights at Freddy's" will significantly deviate from the game canon. In the upcoming film, he voices Toy Bonnie, and according to him, the creators are deliberately reassembling the chronology and events to adapt the complex FNAF mythology to the film format.
In an interview with DiscussingFilm, MatPat noted that it is more important for the film to convey the spirit of the original than to strictly follow the convoluted chronology.
"If nobody knows the lore, does it even exist? The FNAF lore is constantly changing. The books are slightly different from the films, and the films are different from the games. The medium ultimately dictates how the story will unfold. I think they brilliantly preserved the essence of the original while adapting it for cinema."
The ending of the first film already diverged from the canon, changing the details of William Afton's death. In the second part, the changes will be even more significant: the animatronics will move freely around the city, and Mike will return again to confront them. However, Patrick believes that fans have long been accustomed to the fact that the universe exists in several versions and is constantly evolving.
The premiere of the movie "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" will take place on December 5, 2025.
