AI opponents have started hunting not only game developers.

On December 12, Netflix premiered a documentary about the making of the fifth season of Stranger Things. The film shed light on the behind-the-scenes of the production and became a kind of farewell to the actors and characters. Among other things, it turned out that by the time filming began, the authors did not yet have a finished script for the final episode.

"We went into production not having the final script for the final episode. It was terrifying, because we wanted to get it right. It was the most important script of the season".
Matt Duffer

This revelation has once again fueled discussions among viewers who were dissatisfied with the fifth season. As a reminder, it has only 53% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 10,000 ratings, and the final episode received 7.6 points on IMDb. Most often, viewers criticize controversial plot decisions, understatement and a crumpled ending, and also express dissatisfaction with the fate of some characters.

The situation was further aggravated by the fact that attentive viewers of the documentary drew attention to the footage, which shows a laptop with open ChatGPT tabs. This gave AI opponents and those who were not satisfied with the ending reason to accuse the authors of the fact that the fifth season is the so-called "neuro-slop".

At the same time, there are those who rightly point out that the mere presence of ChatGPT on the screen is not proof that the script was written with its help. One Reddit user ironically noted:"If this is irrefutable proof for you, I hope you don't work in the legal field".

Other commentators add that a similar situation is increasingly occurring in the gaming industry: activists are beginning to "cancel" developers for the slightest hint of interaction with artificial intelligence. Recent examples include Larian Studios and Sandfall Interactive, who faced a wave of criticism for the "asset placeholder" in Expedition 33, which was removed a few days after release, but still caused a scandal.
