Some figures are concerned about Valve's policies.

It recently became known about a class action lawsuit against Valve According to the plaintiffs, the owner of Steam "charges an excessive 30% commission on every transaction on the platform".

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney reacted to the news and decided to share his opinion:

Steam's rules explicitly prohibit [game developers] from directing users to alternative purchasing methods, forcing everyone to pay Valve a 30% commission. Apple and Google did the same thing until a court explicitly ruled that such a practice was unlawful. Now they do not do it!

When one of the users noted that "in many games with an in-game store, you can buy items through that game's website," Tim Sweeney replied:

Yes, all stores allow this — including Apple, Google, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. What Steam does not allow (but Apple and Google now do) is when a developer sells something directly from the app, using their own payment screens or their own website.
