Shigeru Miyamoto once compared searching for secrets in games to pornography

In a 1989 interview for the Gamer Handbook, recently translated by shmupulations, Shigeru Miyamoto talked about video games as part of interactive entertainment.

You could say that a great film or book is also a game… but they are passive, whereas a computer is interactive.

He further compared players' desire to find secrets to pornography:

People get bored and look for an increasingly strong stimulus. We've hit a wall. When it comes to "grotesque," you need to look for new ways of interactive entertainment, and video games are just one of them.

Nintendo continues to look for such ways: from motion control in the Wii to the hybrid gameplay of the Switch. Miyamoto is now engaged in expanding Nintendo's key franchises, including films and theme parks.
