"DLSS 5 Critics Are Ignorant": Developer Responds Sharply to Players

The announcement of NVIDIA DLSS 5 at GTC 2026 has sparked a heated reaction on social media. While experts from Digital Foundry who have seen the demo praise the technology, some of the audience accuse NVIDIA of using "artificial filters" and disrespecting the work of artists.

Georgian Avasilcutei, an industry veteran who worked on Dishonored 2 and Hogwarts Legacy, commented on the situation. He stated that many critics are at the top of the "mountain of stupidity," judging something they do not understand.

After all this discussion about DLSS 5, I have come to the conclusion that most people discussing this topic are completely unaware of what they don't know... they are at the peak of ignorance and don't even realize how little they understand.

The developer's main argument is that DLSS 5 is being confused with image generators. According to him, the technology does not "hallucinate" content but uses engine data – geometry, textures, and light. AI only improves lighting and shadows, which would otherwise require significant performance losses.

As an example, he showed a character's face under different lighting conditions: with regular light and advanced ray tracing, the model looks like two different people. DLSS 5 allows achieving the second option with less load.

Avasilcutei added that the "original idea" in old games was often limited by technology. In his opinion, AI is a tool that provides the desired result without waiting for a new generation of "hardware."

Most people react like Pavlov's dog — they hear "AI" and immediately start attacking (...) Educate yourselves before getting angry on the internet for no reason.

The final assessment of DLSS 5 will appear after the release of the first games with support for the technology.
