Despite a successful second season, noticeable changes are happening behind the scenes of Twisted Metal as preparations for the sequel get underway.
The third season of the Twisted Metal series, based on the video game series of the same name, has seen changes in the cast. Mike Mitchell, who played Stu in the first two seasons, confirmed on the Doughboys podcast that he will not be returning in the sequel. According to him, the producers made this decision for "creative and financial reasons."
This news "broke the heart" of Mitchell, as he "really loved the show." According to him, the creators decided to abandon the Stu and Sweet Tooth relationship line, which he considers the "emotional foundation" of the first two seasons, in order to steer the project in a different direction.
Mitchell also noted that other important changes have taken place behind the scenes. Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith left the project, followed by part of the writing team and department heads.
However, it was not only Mitchell's heart that was "broken", but also that of some fans. They criticized what was happening and began spreading the hashtag NoStuNoStream, stating that they would not watch the third season without Mitchell's character. The discussions express bewilderment at such a serious restructuring of a successful series. "Let's renew the show but fire everyone who contributed to it. So typical of Hollywood," — writes user under the nickname SevereEducation2170 in the subreddit r/television.
At the moment, it is known that the series is now headed by David Reed, the writer of "The Boys". Production of the season is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. There are no other official details yet.
