Will GTA Online and RDR 2 servers be blocked in Russia soon? Take-Two fined for data of Russian residents

Those awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto VI are now beginning to worry about the future of GTA Online in Russia.

In late April, RIA Novosti journalists drew attention to the decision of a judge in Moscow's Tagansky District. Take-Two Interactive Software was fined 2 million rubles. It owns Rockstar Games, which created Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V (GTA Online).

Reportedly, the reason was the refusal to localize the data of Russians:

The court found Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc guilty under Part 8 of Article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and imposed a penalty in the form of an administrative fine of 2 million rubles.

Take-Two has not sold its games in Russia for a long time, but the company's online services are still accessible from Russia — gamers can play GTA Online and Red Dead Online.

Reports of the fine are causing some concern in the gaming community, as there is an opinion that this could be followed by blocking of Take-Two servers.

Earlier, Electronic Arts, which also has not sold its games in Russia for a long time, received a similar fine. At that time, Roskomnadzor explained that they did not plan to block EA game servers yet:

No decisions from authorized bodies or courts regarding restricting access to these games have been received by Roskomnadzor.
