Blizzard brought back classic Warcraft III to Battle.net
For several years, players had been asking developers to restore access to the game.
Six years ago, during the release of the infamous Warcraft III: Reforged, players on Battle.net lost access to the original version of Warcraft III. In those years, players actively criticized the developers for this decision, but access to the old RTS was never returned to them.
However, at the end of April 2026, Blizzard Entertainment unexpectedly pleased fans of Warcraft franchise strategies. Fans finally got their beloved game back.
xSunzerox and some other members of the gaming community noticed the classic version in their Battle.net libraries, which was named "Warcraft III - Legacy TFT 1.29".
A representative of Blizzard Entertainment warned players that the "Warcraft III - Legacy TFT 1.29" version would only support offline or local network play:
All Warcraft III owners now have access to the original 1.29 client through the Battle.net application. To install it, click the “Game Version” dropdown menu in the bottom left corner of the Warcraft III screen in Battle.net and select “Warcraft III — Legacy TFT 1.29”. Please note: the Legacy client only supports offline and local area network (LAN) play.
