"Win mid - I'll resign my mandate": Brazilian Deputy with 4374 hours in Dota 2 challenges journalist to a duel
The politician disliked a statement made by a journalist. He decided to settle the score in cyberspace.
Recently, Dota 2 fans turned their attention to the political scene in Brazil. The reason was a statement by Deputy Kim Kataguiri.
He noticed a journalist's post on social media implying that Kim was simply exploiting the gamer image to get more votes from constituents:
It's time for the gaming community to start electing its own political representatives, not just people who show up posing in esports organization t-shirts or playing Dota during the election period. The community has already matured enough to understand who is simply exploiting this topic and who is genuinely working.
Kim decided to challenge the journalist to a Dota 2 match, putting his mandate on the line:
Gather four of your friends and play a match against the team I've assembled. I'm playing too, I'll go mid. If you win the lane or the game – I'll resign my mandate.
This is not "bravado" – Kim has played over 4 thousand hours in Dota 2, sometimes streaming on his Twitch channel.
The journalist responded by saying it would be difficult for him to assemble a team due to Kim's political stance:
You oppose the abolition of [the six-day work week], so it's hard to gather people for a match with you, even considering such an enticing reward
- The proposal to abolish the 6x1 schedule in Brazil is perceived by some as populism; such a measure is considered harmful to workers. There is an opinion that even if the amendments to the law are adopted, people will in fact continue to work on the previous 6-day schedule, but unofficially.
Kim's speech on this topic can be viewed at the following link.
Earlier, Valve released a small balance patch for Dota 2.
