"I've Said Everything I Wanted to Say": Ryan Condal Reveals Scale of "House of the Dragon" Finale and His Future at HBO

The fourth season of the "Game of Thrones" prequel will be the last, after which the showrunner will leave Westeros for new original projects.

"House of the Dragon" showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed in an interview with Deadline that the upcoming fourth season will be the series' final one. The team is already working on the script for the concluding part, with filming planned for spring 2027.

In parallel, the showrunner is promoting the third season, which is set to premiere on June 21, 2026. The season will begin with the legendary "Battle of the Gullet" – a 25-minute battle for which the film crew built two huge water tanks and three unique ships. Condal called the episode "arguably the most insane in television history." 

Overall, for the production of the third season, about 350 liters of prop blood and 3 million liters of water were used, and in one scene, a world record was broken – 23 stunt performers were simultaneously set on fire in a single take.

Despite the impending conclusion of "House of the Dragon," Condal is not leaving HBO. He recently extended his exclusive contract with the TV channel until 2029 to develop new franchises, but he does not plan to return to George R. R. Martin's world:
